Caño Negro Refuge: A successful Boat Tour in a rainy morning

At the Caño Negro Refuge, you can really have a successful boat tour even in a rainy day. Our guest was really worried she couldn’t see many animals - especially birds - because of the heavy rainfall. But, after 3 hours in Caño Negro Refuge we were able to see so many different species of birds from Herons like the Boat-billed Herons, many Kingfishers, Red-winged Blackbirds to Swallows. We were lucky enough to watch capuchin monkeys stealing eggs out of bird nests, a totally wet sloth hanging in the tree, a lot of...

Caño Negro Birding: Least Bittern Birdwatching

For today Caño Negro Birding boat tour, the Least Bittern (Ixobrychus exilis) was the star of the day.We had a couple from Germany here who booked a 5h Photography Tour with us. As we were walking to the pier, we past a beautiful male Plumed Basilisk and later on we saw many Green Iguanas running around at the shore. As we went further into the Caño Negro Refuge we were fortunate...

Eco Boat Tour in Caño Negro Refuge

We had a big group from Holland here, who joined us on an Eco Boat Tour thru the Caño Negro Refuge.  Right in front of our hotel we saw Howler Monkeys and later on we were lucky to spot Capuchin Monkeys in a palm tree. We drove by a lot of caimans at the shore, Amazon Kingfishers flew by, Boat-billed Herons were sitting in the tree, bats hung on a tree and so much more. ...

The Kingfisher Tour

We got a last minute booking the night before for a 6am boat tour today. The couple are here for their Honeymoon and just wanted to see some animals and nature. At the end, they became very interested in birds.  We started with an Anhinga couple, sitting on a branch. As we further went into the Caño Negro Refuge on the river, we were able to see every Kingfisher resistant we have here – Ringed, Amazon, Green-and-rufous, Green and the American Pygmy Kingfisher.    Amazon-Kingfisher ...
