Costa Rica tip: The real deal cano negro boat tour costa rica

Caño Negro Boat Tour Costa Rica

We are in Caño Negro

In the Caño Negro National Refuge in the north side of Costa Rica, a trip on the Rio Frio and the lagoons of Caño Negro is always amusing.

Hotel de Campo is the only hotel located directly in front of the lagoon. This Eco-Lodge Hotel offers a wide range of activities. A boat tour through the Caño Negro refuge is one of them.

The Real Deal

It must be said, but not all tour operators actually arrive in Caño Negro. But we are there, just in front of the lagoon.

Because only at the Original Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge you can find different ecosystems, this place only is home to many species of exotic wildlife.

This is the reason why Caño Negro is today a major birding hotspot.

Only inside of Caño Negro Refuge you can find waterways, canals, and lagoons that provide the perfect habitats and an exclusive way to spot animals in a natural environment.

the easiest and most comfortable way

This is the easiest and most comfortable way to get to know the national refuge of Caño Negro. The flora and fauna along the Rio Frio always offer extraordinary sights and chances for a great photo.

Be prepared to discover as many birds, monkeys, caimans, crocodiles, and turtles, basilisk as possible. We can probably see the 3 kinds of monkeys, such as the spider, howler, and capuchin. Slots can be also be spotted.

And sometimes, if you are very lucky, we can cross a jaguar.

Private boat tour in Caño Negro

We go with your time

The hotel offers different types of boats, depending on the needs of the guests. All boats as a roof to protect you from the sun or the rain.

Boat trips are mainly private because you all have different interests.

Said so, we can organize the trip according to your needs, and eventually wheater conditions, to make the excursion very pleasant. Even if you are a birdwatcher, a photographer, or a nature lover, we can find the best moment.

In any case, just to have an idea for the schedule, during the rainy season, the boat tour starts directly from the hotel. What time? as soon as possible in the morning is better. But, as it is a private tour, in case of rain we can change. As you arrive at the Hotel, we organize the best time that fits your needs.

During the dry season, we start from the Rio Frio. In this case, we can take a short walk, or go in the car. The pear is only 900mts from the Hotel. The best time is always very early in the morning. But, if you like to sleep a bit, we can organize the trip after breakfast, or late in the afternoon.

A private guided boat tour is probably the most comfortable way to see the wildlife of Costa Rica up close!

Cano Negro tour from Arenal?

We have a better offer

Having a Caño Negro tour from La Fortuna, let me say, it is a shame to spend 4 hours in a car or bus to reach Caño Negro for a 2 or 3 hours tour, when you can comfortably sleep just in front of the lagoon, wake up in the morning, having breakfast in complete relax, and enjoy a magnificent tour without stress.

Online you can find some pre-designed packages, but in case you are looking for something different, just let us know. We will prepare a special offer just for you.

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

a RAMSAR wetland

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is the most important sizable wetland in the country. This magnificent refuge is about 9,960 hectares (24,612 acres) and it incorporates large lagoons, rivers, rainforests, open and semi-open environments, and the tiny village by the same name.
The best time of the year to explore Caño Negro is the dry season as more birds conglomerate around the remaining water mirrors. However the rainy season or unexpected flash floods maximize the opportunities for exploration of the area and give access to incredible landscapes.

Caño Negro is a Ramsar Site, a wetland ecosystem designated of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The Convention on Wetlands, known as the Ramsar Convention, is an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO.
