Family Ecotour at the Caño Negro Refuge

This was another gorgeous ecological boat tour at the Caño Negro Wildlife refuge, with a very nice German family with 2 kids.
We take the boat in our private pear at Hotel de Campo, 6am sharp. We begin to exploring the lagoon that is just in front of the hotel. We can’t miss the Nicaraguan Crackle and the friendly jacanas walking over the lilies.

A juvenile of a Little Blue Heron, with a nice color changing was on the shore.
Normally caiman love the sun, but this morning we were very lucky to see one outside the water. On those days, Montezuma Oropendola are quite common to spot because some berry they love are all around.
We leave the lagoon just after to see an adult Tiger heron on the shore, and few smallest caimans in the water.

The river was very calm, and the drizzle stop. So, we navigate in search of monkeys and slots. On our way, a female of anhinga with a ringed blue eye, a common change on is plumage during its breeding. After few days without seeing a Boat billed heron, finally we could spot one on the river.

Close by, we stop to admire the recently born Tiger heron.

Amazon, Ringed and green king Fischer was flying around, and we can see few of them flirting with a beautiful female.
In the distance we could hear a very peculiar sound of the Laughing Falcon, and there it was at the very top of the highest canopy around.

Slots: there it was river down, moving slowly on the very top of a tree. And very close by a large group of spider monkeys, and at the other side of the river… the howler monkeys.

We move on our trip, and a Northern Tamandua, or most commonly known as ant-bear or anteater, having breakfast just over our heads.

Time to go back at the hotel, but we stop before to take few pictures of the Snail Kite that has a nest in a solitary tree in the middle of a lagoon. This was another great morning at the Refuge of Caño Negro.
